All the names of the Messiah
in the New Testament

The main purpose of this website is to show the messianic prophecies from the Old Testament. In the New Testament is the Messiah also described by certain names, both during and after His life. You can find an overview of this on this page. 'To know Him is the (eternal) life' (John. 17: 3), therefore examine these texts, so that you 'may get to know Him (better)' (Phil. 3:10).

A horn of salvation

And has raised up a horn of salvation for usin the house of his servant David. Luke 1:69

Advocate

My little children, I am writing these things to you so that you may not sin. But if anyone does sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous. 1 John 2:1

The Amen

“And to the angel of the church in Laodicea write: ‘The words of the Amen, the faithful and true witness, the beginning of God’s creation. Revelation 3:14

The apostle

Therefore, holy brothers, you who share in a heavenly calling, consider Jesus, the apostle and high priest of our confession. Hebrews 3:1

The Author of life

And you killed the Author of life, whom God raised from the dead. To this we are witnesses. Acts 3:15

The bread of life

Jesus said to them, “I am the bread of life; whoever comes to me shall not hunger, and whoever believes in me shall never thirst. John 6:35

Jesus then said to them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, it was not Moses who gave you the bread from heaven, but my Father gives you the true bread from heaven. John 6:32

The bright morning star

“I, Jesus, have sent my angel to testify to you about these things for the churches. I am the root and the descendant of David, the bright morning star.” Revelation 22:16

Carpenter

Is not this the carpenter, the son of Mary and brother of James and Joses and Judas and Simon? And are not his sisters here with us?” And they took offense at him. Mark 6:3

The chief Shepherd

And when the chief Shepherd appears, you will receive the unfading crown of glory. 1 Peter 5:4

Christ crucified

Ut we preach Christ crucified, a stumbling block to Jews and folly to Gentiles. 1 Corinthians 1:23

The consolation of Israel

Now there was a man in Jerusalem, whose name was Simeon, and this man was righteous and devout, waiting for the consolation of Israel, and the Holy Spirit was upon him. Luke 2:25

The cornerstone

Uilt on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Christ Jesus himself being the cornerstone. Ephesians 2:20

The Deliverer

And in this way all Israel will be saved, as it is written,“The Deliverer will come from Zion,he will banish ungodliness from Jacob” Romans 11:26

The door

I am the door. If anyone enters by me, he will be saved and will go in and out and find pasture. John 10:9

Faithful and True

Then I saw heaven opened, and behold, a white horse! The one sitting on it is called Faithful and True, and in righteousness he judges and makes war. Revelation 19:11

The faithful witness

And from Jesus Christ the faithful witness, the firstborn of the dead, and the ruler of kings on earth.To him who loves us and has freed us from our sins by his blood. Revelation 1:5

The first and the last

When I saw him, I fell at his feet as though dead. But he laid his right hand on me, saying, “Fear not, I am the first and the last and the living one. I died, and behold I am alive forevermore, and I have the keys of Death and Hades. Revelation 1:17-18

The firstborn

For those whom he foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son, in order that he might be the firstborn among many brothers. Romans 8:29

He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of all creation. Colossians 1:15

And again, when he brings the firstborn into the world, he says, “Let all God’s angels worship him.” Hebrews 1:6

The firstborn from the dead

And he is the head of the body, the church. He is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead, that in everything he might be preeminent. Colossians 1:18

And from Jesus Christ the faithful witness, the firstborn of the dead, and the ruler of kings on earth.To him who loves us and has freed us from our sins by his blood. Revelation 1:5

Forerunner

Where Jesus has gone as a forerunner on our behalf, having become a high priest forever after the order of Melchizedek. Hebrews 6:20

The founder and perfecter of our faith

Looking to Jesus, the founder and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is seated at the right hand of the throne of God. Hebrews 12:2

God

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. John 1:1

To them belong the patriarchs, and from their race, according to the flesh, is the Christ, who is God over all, blessed forever. Amen. Romans 9:5

The good shepherd

I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep. John 10:11

I am the good shepherd. I know my own and my own know me. John 10:14

Now may the God of peace who brought again from the dead our Lord Jesus, the great shepherd of the sheep, by the blood of the eternal covenant. Hebrews 13:20

The head of the body

And he is the head of the body, the church. He is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead, that in everything he might be preeminent. Colossians 1:18

And he put all things under his feet and gave him as head over all things to the church. Ephesians 1:22

Heir of all things

Ut in these last days he has spoken to us by his Son, whom he appointed the heir of all things, through whom also he created the world. Hebrews 1:2

High priest

Therefore he had to be made like his brothers in every respect, so that he might become a merciful and faithful high priest in the service of God, to make propitiation for the sins of the people. Hebrews 2:17

Since then we have a great high priest who has passed through the heavens, Jesus, the Son of God, let us hold fast our confession. Hebrews 4:14

Him who is true

And we know that the Son of God has come and has given us understanding, so that we may know him who is true; and we are in him who is true, in his Son Jesus Christ. He is the true God and eternal life. 1 John 5:20

The Holy and Righteous One

But you denied the Holy and Righteous One, and asked for a murderer to be granted to you. Acts 3:14

“What have you to do with us, Jesus of Nazareth? Have you come to destroy us? I know who you are—the Holy One of God.” Mark 1:24

The image of God

In their case the god of this world has blinded the minds of the unbelievers, to keep them from seeing the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God. 2 Corinthians 4:4

He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of all creation. Colossians 1:15

Immanuel

“Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a son,and they shall call his name Immanuel”(which means, God with us). Matthew 1:23

Jesus

She will bear a son, and you shall call his name Jesus, for he will save his people from their sins.” Matthew 1:21

King of the Jews

Saying, “Where is he who has been born king of the Jews? For we saw his star when it rose and have come to worship him.” Matthew 2:2

The King of kings

Which he will display at the proper time—he who is the blessed and only Sovereign, the King of kings and Lord of lords. 1 Timothy 6:15

And from Jesus Christ the faithful witness, the firstborn of the dead, and the ruler of kings on earth.To him who loves us and has freed us from our sins by his blood. Revelation 1:5

Lamb

The next day he saw Jesus coming toward him, and said, “Behold, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world!" John 1:29

And between the throne and the four living creatures and among the elders I saw a Lamb standing, as though it had been slain, with seven horns and with seven eyes, which are the seven spirits of God sent out into all the earth. Revelation 5:6

And all who dwell on earth will worship it, everyone whose name has not been written before the foundation of the world in the book of life of the Lamb who was slain. Revelation 13:8

The last Adam

Thus it is written, “The first man Adam became a living being”; the last Adam became a life-giving spirit. 1 Corinthians 15:45

The light of the world

Again Jesus spoke to them, saying, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.” John 8:12

So Jesus said to them, “The light is among you for a little while longer. Walk while you have the light, lest darkness overtake you. The one who walks in the darkness does not know where he is going. John 12:35

The Lion of the tribe of Judah

And one of the elders said to me, “Weep no more; behold, the Lion of the tribe of Judah, the Root of David, has conquered, so that he can open the scroll and its seven seals.” Revelation 5:5

Lord

As for the word that he sent to Israel, preaching good news of peace through Jesus Christ (he is Lord of all) Acts 10:36

Which he will display at the proper time—he who is the blessed and only Sovereign, the King of kings and Lord of lords. 1 Timothy 6:15

The Lord of glory

None of the rulers of this age understood this, for if they had, they would not have crucified the Lord of glory. 1 Corinthians 2:8

Mediator

For there is one God, and there is one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus. 1 Timothy 2:5

And to Jesus, the mediator of a new covenant, and to the sprinkled blood that speaks a better word than the blood of Abel. Hebrews 12:24

Messiah

He first found his own brother Simon and said to him, “We have found the Messiah” (which means Christ). John 1:41

For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord. Luke 2:11

Nazarene

And he went and lived in a city called Nazareth, so that what was spoken by the prophets might be fulfilled, that he would be called a Nazarene. Matthew 2:23

The only God, who is at the Father’s side

No one has ever seen God; the only God, who is at the Father’s side, he has made him known. John 1:18

Our Passover lamb

Cleanse out the old leaven that you may be a new lump, as you really are unleavened. For Christ, our Passover lamb, has been sacrificed. 1 Corinthians 5:7

Priest

As he says also in another place,“You are a priest forever,after the order of Melchizedek.” Hebrews 5:6

Prophet

And he said to them, “What things?” And they said to him, “Concerning Jesus of Nazareth, a man who was a prophet mighty in deed and word before God and all the people.” Luke 24:19

Moses said, ‘The Lord God will raise up for you a prophet like me from your brothers. You shall listen to him in whatever he tells you. Acts 3:22

Rabbi

But you are not to be called rabbi, for you have one teacher, and you are all brothers. And call no man your father on earth, for you have one Father, who is in heaven. Neither be called instructors, for you have one instructor, the Christ. Matthew 23:8-10

The resurrection and the life

Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. Whoever believes in me, though he die, yet shall he live. John 11:25

The Righteous One

Which of the prophets did your fathers not persecute? And they killed those who announced beforehand the coming of the Righteous One, whom you have now betrayed and murdered. Acts 7:52

Besides, while he was sitting on the judgment seat, his wife sent word to him, “Have nothing to do with that righteous man, for I have suffered much because of him today in a dream.” Matthew 27:19

For Christ also suffered once for sins, the righteous for the unrighteous, that he might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh but made alive in the spirit. 1 Peter 3:18

Rock

And all drank the same spiritual drink. For they drank from the spiritual Rock that followed them, and the Rock was Christ. 1 Corinthians 10:4

The root and the descendant of David

“I, Jesus, have sent my angel to testify to you about these things for the churches. I am the root and the descendant of David, the bright morning star.” Revelation 22:16

Savior

For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord. Luke 2:11

And we have seen and testify that the Father has sent his Son to be the Savior of the world. 1 John 4:14

The son of Abraham

The book of the genealogy of Jesus Christ, the son of David, the son of Abraham. Matthew 1:1

Son of the living God

Simon Peter replied, “You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.” Matthew 16:16

And behold, a voice from heaven said, “This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased.” Matthew 3:17

The beginning of the gospel of Jesus Christ, the Son of God. Mark 1:1

So also Christ did not exalt himself to be made a high priest, but was appointed by him who said to him,“You are my Son,today I have begotten you” Hebrews 5:5

The Son of Man

Jesus said to them, “Truly, I say to you, in the new world, when the Son of Man will sit on his glorious throne, you who have followed me will also sit on twelve thrones, judging the twelve tribes of Israel. Matthew 19:28

Son of the Most High

He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High. And the Lord God will give to him the throne of his father David. Luke 1:32

The source of eternal salvation

And being made perfect, he became the source of eternal salvation to all who obey him. Hebrews 5:9

The true vine

I am the true vine, and my Father is the vinedresser. John 15:1

The way, and the truth, and the life

Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. John 14:6

The Word

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. John 1:1

He is clothed in a robe dipped in blood, and the name by which he is called is The Word of God. Revelation 19:13
